Alex Miller - Site Director

I’m Coach Alex, and I’ve been coaching since I was 16—it's truly my passion. I’ve been part of the Machine family for the past 8 years and currently lead our National Prep Group, working with swimmers at the NCSA, Sectional, and LSC Champs levels. I was honored to be named the PVS Age Group Coach of the Year for 2023–2024! I swam competitively in PVS and NVSL through high school and continued swimming club at George Mason University, where I also studied Biology. My coaching philosophy centers around the individual—helping each swimmer grow not just in the pool, but as a person. I believe in creating a positive, supportive environment where athletes learn the value of hard work, commitment, and resilience. There’s nothing better than watching swimmers hit their goals and knowing I helped them get there. Coaching is what I love, and I feel lucky to do it every day.
Steven LeDuc - Age Group Director
steven@machineaquatics.com
I’m Coach Steve LeDuc, and I joined Machine Aquatics in 2022. I currently serve as the Age Group Director at our Madeira site, where I lead the Gears and High Performance training groups and help support and mentor our coaching staff. My goal is to foster a cohesive, challenging, and confidence-building environment that promotes steady growth for athletes at every level.
My coaching philosophy is all about strong systems. I believe that consistent habits and daily structure lead to long-term success—not just occasional wins. With a background in psychology and education, I design practices that are mentally engaging, technically sharp, and physically demanding, all while keeping athlete well-being front and center. I want swimmers to leave the pool more resilient and more confident in their abilities—ready to take on challenges in and out of the water.
Beyond Machine, I’ve spent over a decade coaching in both summer league and high school programs. I’ve been with Cardinal Hill in the NVSL for 14 seasons and coached at Marshall High School for 10 seasons as both an assistant and head coach. My background in education helps me connect with swimmers of all ages and learning styles, and I’m committed to creating a training environment where athletes feel supported, coaches are empowered, and success naturally follows.
Cliff Gordon - Senior Coach
cliff@machineaquatics.com
I'm Clif Gordon. I bring a wealth of experience to Machine Aquatics as both a former collegiate swimmer and a dedicated coach and leader in the swimming community. I grew up swimming in Wilmington, Delaware, for the Delaware Swim Team under Coach Bruce Gemmell and Coach Sean Dougherty. During my swimming career, I earned High School Scholastic & Athletic All-American honors, was a 5x First Team All-State honoree, and qualified for USA Swimming Junior Nationals, Nationals, and the U.S. Open. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2015, where I competed for four years on the Tar Heels’ Swimming and Diving Program and received the 2014–2015 Hill Carrow Team Spirit Award.
Before joining Machine, I led the Gold 2 group at Nation’s Capital Swim Club at the Georgetown Prep site, preparing athletes for local, national, and international competitions. I also served as Head Coach and Aquatics Director at Hillsborough Aquatic Club in North Carolina, guiding athlete development from stroke mechanics through National Qualifiers while managing operations, staff, and programming.
I’m actively involved in USA Swimming governance and athlete development on both national and regional levels. I currently serve as the Eastern Zone DEI Co-Chair and Potomac Valley Swimming DEI Chair. I’ve been selected multiple times as an assistant coach for the USA Swimming National Diversity Select Camp and helped coach an athlete named to the 2023 U.S. World Championship Team and the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team. My past leadership roles include serving as North Carolina Swimming’s DEI Chair, participating in camp development and sanction committees, and co-creating the Carolinas Diversity Select Camp.
I’m passionate about fostering athlete growth, promoting inclusive excellence, and building a strong team culture. I’m excited to support Machine swimmers in achieving their goals both in and out of the water.
